I am not a huge fan of Mary Kate and Ashley's personal style, but I do appreciate them for what they are. They have a sort of street cred with high fashion types, and they do take risks and switch it up- everything from men's pantsuits to grandma robes to street-punk heroine-chic.
I have absolutley no aspirations to take on any of their many collective looks, but I do get that they forge their own way in the fashion world, and do know a lot about couture design.
Which leads me to Elizabeth and James, their casual women's line.
I like.
A lot.
It's really young and flirty, sassy and chic. Lots of silk and sequin mini dresses, latex embosses pants, peacock feather skirts, high waisted slacks.
Also worth checking out is their other more couture line, The Row. It's a bit more high fashion, and the pieces I saw reminded me of Rick Owens. I don't like it nearly as much- where E and J is flashy and young, The Row consists of solid, drapy, sheer t-shirts and is very bland, for my taste.
Of course they had to do a jewelry line as well, which i don't care for very much. Lots of cheap beads and snakes, for a very hefty price. And it's called Chick Downtown, which to me sounds like it belongs at Claire's or Walmart.
